Nicking the Gavel
"I'm not like other girls." This trope is one that I can go without. Hollywood often capitalizes on hyper-masculine superwomen as a feminist message to attract a contemporary audience. But is this the only narrative of feminism? This series based on a real-life attorney, Lidia Poët, inspired me to investigate these inquiries.
Into the Fold
In recent years, Netflix has released more shows featuring diverse casts and stories. Netflix's Shadow and Bone is one example. However, watching the series as a Taiwanese-Singaporean-American, I wanted to recognize aspects for improvement to craft a more nuanced story.
Left Behind
Since I wrote this article, my reflection on my gap semester has shifted. This article remains a reminder of the invaluable lessons I learned as I navigated two worlds. The intercultural immersion made me realize what it means to be American.
